Runtz is a strain originally from Los Angeles and is known for its fruity flavor profile, potent-yet-balanced high, and diverse color palette. (It didn’t hurt that it came from the Cookies family and that it was marketed in a fun way.) Runtz is the offspring of a Gelato phenotypic and Zkittlez, and it has now grown a family of phenotypes, with White Runtz and Pink Runtz becoming popular strains in their own right.
The runtz genetics is a rare Bay Area flower. Purples and blues are mingled in with the green encircling the orange pistils in these buds. It has thicker, orange-colored hairs that cover the purple buds and green flowers. This strain is recognized for its distinct appearance and terpene profile.
Runtz is a unique and sought-after Cookies Family strain that is a hybrid between Zkittlez and Gelato. The strain contains resin-drenched blooms that range in color from rich purple to lime green and is known for its highly fruity flavor that smells exactly like a bag of sugary candy.

The Runtz strain becomes light and wispy compared to typical Cookies cuts. It has trichomes that jut out and grow in stringy calyxes that have their own alien charm. When cultivated outside, the plant flowers in 8-9 weeks, harvests around the end of September and can reach heights of 180cm. The yields are good, ranging from 450 to 500 grams per square meter of the garden, depending on whether it’s cultivated outside or inside.
This strain can grow in both indoor and outdoor environments. While growing this strain outside yields a somewhat higher yield (around 600 grams per plant), it may also be grown indoors.
Due to its popularity, Runtz is not the easiest strain to obtain in seed form. If you do manage to get your hands on some of that sweet citrusy goodness, you’ll be pleased to find that Runtz grows almost everywhere and is suitable for gardeners of all levels of experience. It grows ambitiously “upwards”, and doesn’t spread out too much in its natural growing pattern. If you want to start harnessing Runtz’s true potential, we recommend being generous with nitrogen in his growing habitat.
